Andarine or S4 is one of the SARMS that’s being unfairly shamed these days for the vision side effects that it supposedly causes. The other one being GW501516 for the rodent-linked cancer study.
We are completely fine when someone bashes a product cause they had a bad experience with it.
But this is fear mongering. And it has increased to an extent that all that one gets to read about Andarine these days is the vision sides.
Everything else is being dusted under the carpet.
Make no mistake, Andarine is an amazing compound that has tons of benefits. It increases lean muscle mass, boosts strength and is one of the best muscle hardeners that we’ve seen.
A lot of guys in the gym have asked us whether we were on Winny or Mast when in reality, we were on an Andarine and Ostarine stack.
That should give you an idea of the vascularity and the rock-hard muscles that you can gain with Andarine.
There are conflicting reports about the origin of Andarine.
Some attribute the pre-clinical discovery to a Japanese company called Kaken whereas others, including the almighty Wikipedia, gives GTX the credit.
Either ways, the drug is being researched as a safer alternative to anabolic steroids for the treatment of muscle wasting, BPH and Osteoporosis.
The first two among those, are what interests us the most.
Muscle wasting, which means that Andarine can help increase lean muscle mass.
BPH because it does not stimulate or enlarge the prostate when it does increase lean muscle mass.
The potential applications are tremendous. S-4, along with LGD-4033 and Ostarine might one day replace the androgenic hormonal use common for such therapeutic applications.
And also in a performance enhancement setting.
As always here are some links for those interested in the scientific part for critical analysis.
What it says about S4: Works as a full Androgen receptor agonist in muscle and bone tissue. But only as a partial agonist in the prostate gland. Increases lean muscle mass without any adverse effect on the prostate. Complete bio-availability, short half-life.
What is says about S4: Increase in bone mineral density with zero androgenic side effects. In post-menopausal women, that is a possible cure for osteoporosis without the risk of virilization or masculinity.
Benefits of an Andarine S4 cycle
S4 is one of the most powerful, complete androgen receptor agonists in the SARMS world currently. And it is highly tissue-selective in its action. So, you can pretty much expect all the results that you would get by using a powerful androgen.
Unlike testosterone-like SARMS which allow you to gain muscle with a fair amount of water retention, like say LGD-4033 does, S-4 gives you pure, lean muscle mass if you eat in a calorie surplus. There have been cases where people have gained as much as 6 lbs. of lean mass with two or three S-4 cycles in a year. Gains that you can keep even when you come off the drug that is.
In a cutting cycle, S-4 dries you out. Your muscle looks harder, you look more vascular and the pumps last all day. It is pretty dramatic for a first time SARMS user. And this effect kicks-in within the first two weeks. Like we said, it’s the Winny equivalent of the SARMS world. However, there’s one key difference. S-4 doesn’t cause the painful muscle cramps that Winstrol does. It won’t dry out your joints. So, you won’t have to pop a hundred supplements to be able to lift.
A lot of people think that it’s the muscle hardening effect that makes you look leaner while you are on S-4. But the fact is that it’s a very powerful androgen receptor agonist which increases the oxidation of fat. The fat loss won’t be as dramatic as what you’d get with Clenbuterol. But if you are under 15% body fat and are looking to polish the last few pounds, then S-4 might be a safer bet.
What about the vision side effects?
The vision side effects are real. There’s no denying it.
But it’s temporary. And it’s individualistic.
It seems to be caused by the S-4 binding temporarily to the retina.
Some people get the sides even at low doses. If you are one of them, you can either try the 5:2 dosage protocol or you can look for an alternative.
The side effects will stop in about a week after you come off the drug anyway.
Here are some of the side effects that some people experience.
- A yellow tinge to the vision during the day
- Partial or complete loss of peripheral vision during the night
- Difficulty adjusting when you transition from complete darkness to light
The side effects usually kick-in after doses as high as 50mg/day.
The 5:2 dosage protocol is pretty effective in reducing the sides to an extent. You take your regular dose for 5 days and take 2 days off.
The other option is to use a low dose only for your complete cycle.
Andarine S4 Dosage
The dosage will be highly dependent on how you react to S-4.
Start at 25mg/ED for a week. Increase it to 50mg/ED for another week.
If you do not notice any vision related side effects, bump it up to 75mg/week for the rest of your cycle.
Women can start with 15-20mg/ED and bump it slightly to 25mg/ED for the rest of their cycles.
As always, use a stack only if you have run successful SARMS cycles multiple times. Do not use multiple compounds in your first cycle.
Here’s are some options for different stacks.
- Cutting stack: S-4 at 25-50mg/day clubbed with Cardarine at 20mg/ED. This is one of the most popular cutting stacks that ups your endurance, burns fat, hardens muscle and allows you to retain lean muscle even when you are eating in a deficit.
- Bulking stack: Andarine at 20-25mg/day, upped to 50mg/day with Anabolicum at 10mg/day for 8-weeks. You can even use Testolone in this stack in place of Anabolicum.
